Kitchen 5/7/10

Based on our conversations today, I think that the pantry cabinets should be moved back to there original location and the fridge stays where it is. This will be to the demise of the broom closet but to better flow with the new kitchen.
Maybe we can work the broom closet in elsewhere. Laundry closet maybe.

Update 3/17/2010

We are planning on putting in a temporary sink and hooking up the stove and leaving the fridge. I may put it all against the wall where the stove is. We will then put up a temporary wall to the right of the window next to the oven. This will allow us to take out the wall and replace the windows. I would box up and store anything that you won't need till we're done. Just keep day to day dishes and silver and pans and store decorative bowls, incidentals and cork collection.

Met last night to go over the shop drawings for the cabinets. Everything was ok'd except colors.

We have a signed change order for replacement windows. (2) in downstairs bath and (2) in girls bedroom.

Schedule: Project should start on 3/22 with cabinets being delivered on 4/14

Appliance Notes

  • The refrigerator is fine. My only thought with the glass front door is that you need to keep the interior neat since it is constantly on display to all who visit. Aside from that it is very cool.
  • The only spot I can see for the wine fridge is in the island. It will compliment the other fridge drawers as beverage drawers. Either side handle would work just need to know which it is.
  • On the dishwasher I think that the stainless would be nice to compliment the range hood and the fridge.

  • I didn't see anything about Trash Compactors. Do you want to try to fit those in?

Range Top

Model SRT366
There’s good reason why professional chefs choose gas cooking; control. The patented, dual-stacked sealed gas burners of our Sealed Burner Rangetop take control to a new level. Two levels, really. The upper-tier ports deliver maximum heat transfer at higher settings; the lower-tier continuous flame is capable of handling the subtleties of simmering and melting.

Double Wall Ovens

Electronic controls hide behind a stainless steel panel. A motor quietly rotates the control panel into position. Both ovens feature the Wolf dual convection system. Two fans and four heating elements operate either simultaneously or in sequence, depending on one of ten cooking modes you choose.

Wine Fridge

SUB-ZERO 424
Our most compact wine storage unit stores up to 46 bottles. Like its larger counterparts, the Sub-Zero 424 Wine Storage has two zones with temperatures precisely controlled by microprocessors.

Refrigerator / freezer drawers

Sub-zero Model 700BR

The Sub-Zero 700BR Refrigerator Drawers offer you nearly infinite possibilities. Two drawers give you over five cubic feet of storage that you can integrate into any room in your home.

Refrigerator

SUB-ZERO BI36UGThe Sub-Zero BI-36UG over-and-under with glass door offers large refrigerated storage, plus a convenient roll-out freezer drawer. Sub-Zero dual refrigeration along with new air purification and water filtration systems guard the freshness of your food and water like nothing before. Overlay and stainless steel models are available. The flush inset design installation allows the unit to sit flush with surrounding cabinetry.

Journal 1/09/10

Peter Stames (PS), Peter V (PV), Catherine V (CV), Scott Horgan.

Contract signed and deposit made. Project start date is officially 1/08/10.

Items discussed at meeting:
  1. Cabinetry - Cabinets to all be painted. We did talk about the color in that if it is white and the counter tops were also white that the kitchen could look a bit washed out. Darker (unpainted) base cabinets was scratched by CV.
Removed peninsula from the kitchen and changed door to 60" double french pocket door. I suggest maybe a smaller island or movable island in that space. We can wait and see what we think.
  2. Appliances - All appliances to be stainless steel. We determined that the refrigerator (as a Sub-Zero) will only come cabinet depth. We have plenty of room to go to 42" or 48" in a Sub-Zero or change to a different brand altogether. There is plenty of room behind the area so we could put in a deeper fridge in another brand. We need to consider where trash compactor(s) will be located as well as a microwave. Appliances need to be nailed down as soon as possible so that the Scott can do his shop drawings.
  3. Counter Tops - Most counter tops to be Carrera Marble. Island to be determined (TBD).
  4. Carpentry - Depending on the width of the double ovens and its effect on the plumbing in the area that the ovens are to be installed we may need to finesse the side of the stairs or customize a cabinet for this area.
There are many types of trim in the house and they change from room to room. Since the previous addition installed a Winsor One molding in the new area we will copy that in the new area.
  5. Schedule - The cabinetry will take approximately 10 weeks from signing of contract. Estimated start of construction will be on or around the first week of March. Windows should be ordered by Monday 1/11. We need appliances asap.

Overview

Elevation North

I added in the 60" wide double french pocket door. I thought an arched opening would be nice. Also depending on the width of the double ovens we may need to widen the area beneath the stairs. This may or may not be tricky. There is some plumbing there.

South Elevation

There will be a slight pitch in the floor in front of the sink due to the transition from one existing room to the next. We will try to minimize this as much as possible. We may have to take up the floor boards in that area and add wedges. This work may constitute a change order.
