Journal 1/09/10

Peter Stames (PS), Peter V (PV), Catherine V (CV), Scott Horgan.

Contract signed and deposit made. Project start date is officially 1/08/10.

Items discussed at meeting:
  1. Cabinetry - Cabinets to all be painted. We did talk about the color in that if it is white and the counter tops were also white that the kitchen could look a bit washed out. Darker (unpainted) base cabinets was scratched by CV.
Removed peninsula from the kitchen and changed door to 60" double french pocket door. I suggest maybe a smaller island or movable island in that space. We can wait and see what we think.
  2. Appliances - All appliances to be stainless steel. We determined that the refrigerator (as a Sub-Zero) will only come cabinet depth. We have plenty of room to go to 42" or 48" in a Sub-Zero or change to a different brand altogether. There is plenty of room behind the area so we could put in a deeper fridge in another brand. We need to consider where trash compactor(s) will be located as well as a microwave. Appliances need to be nailed down as soon as possible so that the Scott can do his shop drawings.
  3. Counter Tops - Most counter tops to be Carrera Marble. Island to be determined (TBD).
  4. Carpentry - Depending on the width of the double ovens and its effect on the plumbing in the area that the ovens are to be installed we may need to finesse the side of the stairs or customize a cabinet for this area.
There are many types of trim in the house and they change from room to room. Since the previous addition installed a Winsor One molding in the new area we will copy that in the new area.
  5. Schedule - The cabinetry will take approximately 10 weeks from signing of contract. Estimated start of construction will be on or around the first week of March. Windows should be ordered by Monday 1/11. We need appliances asap.

Overview

Elevation North

I added in the 60" wide double french pocket door. I thought an arched opening would be nice. Also depending on the width of the double ovens we may need to widen the area beneath the stairs. This may or may not be tricky. There is some plumbing there.

South Elevation

There will be a slight pitch in the floor in front of the sink due to the transition from one existing room to the next. We will try to minimize this as much as possible. We may have to take up the floor boards in that area and add wedges. This work may constitute a change order.
